With its winding ascent to its mountainside location, this brutalist home acts as an austere, private enclave for one multi-generational family. The client had purchased the Cagayan de Oro site, aptly named for its highland position, largely for the dramatic views of the city below. This was paramount in the design of the whole home, and particularly the main floor: the open plan nature of the main floor allows unobstructed views, where, upon entry, residents and visitors are greeted home by Cagayan de Oro and Macajalar Bay below.
The Mountain Pass House is a quintessentially brutalist home: the volumetric approach, monotone color scheme, and lack of embellishments reduces home living to its barest essentials.
